Playroom Staging Tips

Playroom Staging

Playroom staging can help transform any chaotic play space into a desirable room for children to enjoy in the safety of their home. Playrooms have a notoriously bad reputation as cluttered, messy and unaesthetic spaces. However, this does not have to be the case. Home staging can transform any playroom into a welcoming asset inside the property.

This discussion details the process of staging a playroom for maximum appeal to prospective buyers. If you are not sure how to handle your children’s’ playroom when selling your home, then this is the right tutorial for you.

Playroom Staging Tips and Concerns

Playrooms are traditionally dirty, messy, cluttered and unappealing to prospective buyers. Worse still, children tend to get upset when adults interfere in their space in an attempt to clean things up to receive visitors to the property.

Toys are often left about, there are usually marks on the walls and floor and the smell of many playrooms can turn buyers around in their tracks. What can be done to make these rooms less of a liability while still preserving family harmony?

Playroom Staging Tips Process

The best strategy to deal with difficult kids is to get them involved. Explain to them why the room needs some fixes and have them help out to get the job done. If necessary, promise them a better space in their new home and be sure to deliver on that promise. You can keep the room as a play space, but I recommend instituting the following solutions to make it more appealing:

First, clear the room out and give it a thorough cleaning. Try to remove any marks from the floor and walls, including crayon, paint or stains.

Try to convince kids to store away items that they do not play with often. Put these in your storage unit or pack them in anticipation for the upcoming move. Donate items that they have already outgrown or have a garage sale.

Once cleaned and decluttered, you can now work on organizing the items that must remain in the room. You can use a variety of storage solutions to contain the toys and stuff that remains. Make sure to use covered storage, such as large colorful plastic bins, draws or other solutions that are kid-friendly.

Be sure to keep traffic areas complete clear to avoid the risk of someone falling down and possible litigation which may follow.

Playroom Staging Tips Alternatives

I usually recommend removing playrooms from the property layout during staging, since these areas are never overly appealing, unless the potential buyers allow their children to dictate their entire lives. In my experience, most playrooms are much better off being staged as dens, family rooms or other spaces with more universal appeal for the entire family. Unless your home is huge and already has several of such spaces, I would strongly advise against leaving a playroom active as part of your home staging.

If you do decide to leave the space, try to bring some touches into the room that make it more appealing to the non-kids in your buyer demographic, such as a comfortable sofa and some multimedia solutions. While children’s needs factor into buyer decisions, having a large dedicated space just for play usually disappoints buyers and can be frequently be better utilized as a different application.
